Qanda – Democracy in Action

Tonight was the premier of a new ABC public affairs program called Q&A. As their first person to question, they choose someone everyone would have a question for, that is, the Prime Minister: the Honourable Kevin Rudd.

It’s about democracy in action

The program follows a different method of interviewing it’s guests, instead of having one person doing the interviewing. It’s conducted by the audience — listeners at home, people in forums, via email and from the audience in the studio. This makes the questions sometimes come with double barrels, and also puts the guest in the hot seat, making it so that the guest has to make the answers on the fly.

Throughout the first episode, the questions ranged from Climate Change and Renewable power, to Aboriginal issues and even to Gay Marriage and rights. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, in my opinion answered every question to the highest standards. He didn’t let personal views get in the way of actual business, he was blunt, down to the facts.

Overall I’d rate the first episode of Q&A, four foxes out of five.
